Backed Into A Corner

Hi 23 years old, got convicted of drug felonies right when I turned eightteen. Prior to that never really got in much trouble, probaly sold the least amount of drugs to get a felony. Never even went to jail, i got one year probation which I completed. Basically my big mouth and thinking that being honest with the cops would help got me where I am today. Just got denied for a rental property today and am really depressed about it. Everytime I think I have conquered my felony stuff like this happens and knocks me right back down. I have a good job thanks to my parents and I am really good at it, but when my mind gets caught in this loop thinking about being a felon and it affects my work preformance. Every time the word felon comes up in a conversation i shudder and hope the subject changes. I try to be such a good person and care about other people but I feel like Im backed up in a corner. Is there felons out there who ended up becoming succesful and making a good living?  Words cannot express the corruptness of the system, how do they expect reform when they hand out felonies like nothing? I would love to go to school and learn and grow but its pointless. From the sounds of it its near immposible to get a felony expunged. I have so much potential, but im lost and confused. Thanks for listening.

When you mentioned hearing the word felon and wanting the subject to change is familiar with me. Drinking and driving and having the felony of Vehicular Assault on my record has been difficult in my family because my brother is a cop and he's always talking about dui's, then my step dad has to bring my situation up in a comment. I get so fueled up because I feel like I'm paying over and over for my mistake. I had a 23 year clean driving record and boom, one bad day ruins everything for a long time. My family always drink and drove but no one ever got caught and now I'm the bad guy. I'm looking for full time work and that has been difficult even with an education. I am only in the beginning stage so I don't know the full ramifications yet. We'll see when I look for an apartment in a few months. Hang in there. I also heard Chemical Dependency Counselors can have felonies. I know of one who has 9. If you go to school for that you can get a job.
