Having Trouble Moving Forward

HI all,

I am a 53 year old woman who has a felony.  My felony is 23 years old and I am still having trouble finding a job, more so now.  The one place I could find work is with temp services, but now find that their asking for a clean record.  So, how are we to live if we are not allowed to work???? Does anyone know if there is a group that is active in trying to change laws about felon's records where employment is concern.

Hello, I am also a felon. Have you considered having your record expunged? After 23 years you should not have a problem doing this. Also you might consider self employment, you could receive assistance to compensate for what you don't earn in the beginning and eventually be self sufficient. Keep your chin up God, family and friends will help see you through. By the way don't look for society to change there way of dealing with us. There are a lot of real bad apples out there and there has to be safe guards in place to protect people. I consider myself to be honest, reliable and as upstanding as anyone but because of my own bad deed I now fall in a different category and as much as I hate it I can't change it.

Hello,

I just got home from a 5yr Federal prison bid, And I have not been able to find work, I go on job interviews with suit and tie hoping to land a 8 dollar an hour job. Before going away I was making $100,000.00 job with 2 homes and everything a man can want. Now I can't get a job stocking shelves.

Hello, I am a Felon. When looking for jobs it can be very frustrating. I ran into the same problem and ended up becoming self employed. Sometimes you can use skills from your previous life to find employment but sometimes you have to reinvent yourself. It is not easy but look at what your good at and accent on the positive. God, family and friends will help with this. Look at what your good at and move forward. I will tell you I have to be reminded of this from time to time, we all have bumps but we can do it.

I know how you feel. I was recently convicted and now I cant find a job. The court tells you you have to work but on one will forgive and forget. Cant find a job anywhere. I know the economy is bad but give me a break I'm so afraid that I will lose my home, I only want a second chance to prove myself

Dear Scarlett, <br />

Your situation is also very distressing. I made a post to tommysmommy, please read. You are probably also a candidate for expungement of your record.

what was your charge?
