The Way They Smell

I don't know why but I love the way that bookstores smell. It smells like paper which is weird 'cause how would you know what paper smells like right? But I do. I don't know how to explain it. When I walk in Chapters, it smells like books, so new and sometimes used. Like old, dusty paper almost. I love it. Does anyone else feel this way?

Yes, I feel this way as well. Bookstores & libraries have always been a wonderful waystation for me. Sadly, they are becoming harder to find as technology makes books of paper less and less necessary. At least, they will stay around for my lifetime, but I do hope they will survive long term since a book in paper form can be more than just the book itself, but the history of its existence. Such as a book once I cataloged when I worked at a library. It had a ticket in it from JFK airport indicating someone from the USS Hewett had possessed the book or it was in their library on board. Older books can have inscriptions from owners that can tell you much of what people were thinking way back when. Not likely to see that with eBooks.

So true.
