Check Your Modesty At The Door

Why do they give you those gowns that expose you and seem to give you a hard time when you ask for TWO gowns in order to cover front and back? Ever since I had a bad experience as a teenager I hate getting undressed for doc visits. Gynecologist in particular. When they do the internal exam, they use their brightest lights up there. I partially stand up in the stirrups. But getting back to the bad experience:
I was 16. I was seeing a female gyno. First thing was no nurse in the room with her, Second thing was she was FONDLING ME.........I KNOW they are not supposed to open you up with their fingers for the internatl exam but those clamps. She rubbed her pubes against my arm while I was lying on the exam table. I felt dirty. And I knew this was molestation but I just wanted to get out of there and never come back. Now I have male gynecologists. But the trauma during mammographies and gyn exams still doesn't go away......

As a Nurse Practitioner and a woman, all I have to say is there is so much troll fodder here it is sickening! It is an upset and insult to not only practitioners but to real victims. First of all STEPHEN3377 how would you know a male is better? Did you suddenly grow a vagina and mammary glands or did you go through Jennertrification? DiekatzeScheibt: How the heck can her ¨pubes¨ rub against you? Or, did you leave out the part where she disrobed or took off her underwear in front of you? And, you´re presumably a woman of 41 to 45? I would think that you´ve been to a GYN more than once and by now know those ¨clamps¨ (and the are NOT even clamps!) are called a speculum. ¨Partially stand up in the stirrups¨ OH! Please! The cervix cannot even be visualized in a standing position, partially or fully, thus the proper lithotomy position and the stirrups or leg rests in the first place!

As far as the laws governing a chaperone, it does not have to be a Nurse, it can be any person of the patients choosing. While most States do not mandate this as LAW, the ACOG code of ethics is clear, as are most professional codes, that any patient requesting the presence of a person to accompany them through an examination has this right, unless there is a danger to the person or patient, or providers present.

I´m so lit by this fodder because it takes away the respect that should be given to the FEW unfortunate women who have been taken advantage of in this situation and BTW people, the whole boy/girl thing about GYNs .... grow up! It is estimated that fully 65% of all female GYNs are openly lesbian. Stop worrying so much about what the guys are thinking!

you really think that happen , I have a male and he sticks his fingers up there, I hope he is not doing something he is not surpose to do , I known him since I was a baby

An integral part of a gyno exam IS the digital exam...using their fingers to feel what your insides feel like.

So sorry, this happened to you. If you need to talk about it, I'm here. Just MSG.

Male gynecologists are worse. Why would a woman go to a male gyno for intimate exams? Yuck!

Man just try to forget those moments I know it's difficult but that's the only thing you can do. Either do it or just regret for your rest of your life. So be tough and keep moving.

Guess I was mortified about what happened and didn't want to talk about or even think about it. I've had male gynos every since....and they for legal reasons have a nurse in with them which is reassuring
