My Story

my names morgan. im 14 eahs old. ive been living with trich for 7 years now, and its taking over my life. prozac is the med im taking and it doesnt seem to help at all. when i was in 1st grade, my mom discovered a bald spot on the top of my head. we were all scared because i haad gorgeous hair at the time. so as months went, my mom kept checking my head to see if any has got worse. it had. till about 3rd grade i had no way to hide my bald spots except for wearing a big head band. now m parents and doctors assumed it was alopicia for many years, i didnt want to believe that i was actuall pulling my hear out from the roots. as i got older, the pulling got worse, to the point where m mom caught me pulling my hair alot. we then went to a doctor who said it was tricholillomania. [even as im typing now, i stop to pull my hair for a min] but anyways, one i found it was trich, m mom did everything she could to keep my hads occupied 24/7. still it wasnt helping. it also didnt help that i had my own room upstairs and i would pull whenever i was alone. and thats basically my story. im curently bald on the top and back which leaves me nothing to do with my hair. :[ messege me if youu want to talk :]

Naw poor you :( That can't be easy. Obsessions never disappear suddenly, it will take time, and you must be strong and focused on your ob<x>jective. I agree with sweet EPErica that you should try to find something to do with your hands, something that absorbs you and makes you feel happy. But, as it is impossible to be constantly occupied it will be hard not to pull the hair, so maybe you should wear a cap or something that hinders you from pulling your hair. There are treatments that can lessen your hair-pulling significantly, talk to your doctor for more information. Here are som useful webpages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichotillomania#Treatments and http://www.trich.org/index.asp . Good luck! I know you can do it! :D

If you are looking for something to do with your hands, you could try knitting or crochet. I don't know how helpful it would be, but it takes a little more focus than just fiddling with something, and can produce some awesome finished products. Let me know if you are interested in learning, and I can point you in the right direction. I hope everything works out for you.
