Last Of The Great Coca-cola Sale At Shopper's

I drink, and have drank, Coca-Cola like it's going out of style. It's the one addiction that has stuck with me, through thick and thin, for as long as I can remember.  It was with me when I worked up North, in the early 90s; It got me through my undergraduate program at university ('97 - '02'); the extra weight it provided played a role in my divorce ('07), and my subsequent recovery, which took a few years; and it's gotten me though so many shifts at work over the years, too.

With it being such a constant in my life, I'm always on the look-out for deals.  Here in British Columbia, Canada, the price of a normal, 591 ml bottle has reached as high as $1.99 each.

One of the great bargains I discovered was buying a six-pack of 710 ml bottles.  Even if they're priced at $5.99 per pack, that's still just $1.00 per bottle.  (When I was a kid, you could buy a 750 ml bottle for just 89 cents, but that was a lot of pop for an 8 - 9-year-old, back in the heady '70s).  And I don't have to worry about a 2 litre bottle going flat if I open it, then leave it too long.

This summer I was at a Shopper's Drug Mart when I noticed they'd brought in a case-load of those 710 ml six-packs.  They were selling them for just $3.49 each, which was a super deal.  Okay, Superstore was selling them for $2.99 each, but they were always sold out!  I bought them in bulk from Shoppers, four six-packs at a time, until the price went up to $4.99 each.  Which was still less than the regular $5.99.  Still, I was disappointed.

A little while later I found that the Shopper's Drug Mart in the mall much closer to where I lived had also brought them in bulk, and were selling them for $2.99 each.  That's just 50 cents per bottle, which beats any deal around, hands down.  I've taken full advantage of it too.  I'm sure I bought at least one dozen of those six-packs, if not more.

Christmas Day is now only nine days away, and Coke can't have anyone selling their merchandise at that low a price!  I'd noticed last week that my local Shopper's was running low on those six-packs, so today I went to pick up some more before Christmas ruined that bargain.  And was I ever lucky, let me tell you!  They had just five six-packs left.  I purchased them all!

It's sad to know I'll have to hunt around for a new Coke bargain in the new year.  (i don't think "new year" needs to be capitalized in that context.  I apologize if I'm wrong.)  But nothing lasts forever, unfortunately.  For now, I'll savour the last of this great deal.

I don't want to sound like a mommy so I'm not saying another word. ;-)
