What the Difference?

I still don't get it, what are the biggest differences between a Lutheran and a Christian or Mormon or Islamist?

And may our Televisions have coverage of the event.

Advent is for the preparing of the heart for the coming of the Lord. May our hearts have a place for Him when He comes.

You have asked a great and profound question. Actually this is a question that not only you and me have asked, but also Luther and other great theologies have asked. I would also add that to me it is the question that every person born must answer and will answer.<br />

I think the different is in the view of the relationship with God that can be had and how that relationship can be had.

Lutheran here. Dad was a pastor (now deceased) for 40 years. Do we have ELCA and Missouri Synod here?

Cults’ brainwash...religion brainwashes...what are the other differences?

ok ok...Both Lutherans and Mormons are Christians. I will NEVER understand why everyone refers to mormons as a cult. See the name Mormons is a nickname. The actual name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It's no more a cult then any other religion out there. I don't know much about the Islamic religion so I can't help you there. But the big difference between a Lutheran and a "Mormon" is the books they call scripture. The LDS church (mormons) have a The Book of Mormon (that's where the nickname comes from)....the BOM is pretty much what seperates the LDS church from any other church. Just know they are Christians and they worship God the father and Jesus Christ. They don't worship Mormon or Joesph Smith. FYI

Ah, that clears it up. And yet still I'm thinking there's not much of a difference.

Lutherans are Christians. They're just a sect of Christianity. Christianity has branched off into dozens, if not hundreds, of little sections because of disagreements about how a church is run, or piddly little rules that really shouldn't matter at all. Mormons are considered a Christian "cult," but I couldn't really tell you the difference between a cult and a sect... except the level of respect, which the title itself suggests. Islam is not a Christian religion, but they technically pray to the same God... I think, but they believe that Jesus was only a prophet and that Mohammed was better than him. I'm not entirely sure about that one.
