My First Installment Of Many... Introducing Cal ...

A few do, but not many of you know that Happy so far in this point in his life has not received the blessing of having a child of my own.

There are a myriad of factors for the reasons…. Ranging from mutual desire, financial and occupational incompatibility, fertility issues, relationship issues….. I could go on and on…

The later in life I get, the more the regret, disappointment and simply sad remorse are becoming the primary feelings….

Due to extreme unfortunate circumstances however, I have been given a gift that has no equal. A young man who I have taken on as much of the father role as I can. He is a bright shining star in my life that I have embraced dearly….

I do not want to go into specifics, but my brother and sister-in-law divorced several years ago…. An ugly as divorce as you can imagine with two beautiful children, a 9 year old girl, and an 11 year old boy utilized as pawns, messengers, and exposed to more vile manipulation than I care to share.

My brother shares the brunt of this responsibility, and while being physically close, has chosen to be the absentee father that he is. He does participate in the children’s lives, but has chosen a level and life path that is completely unacceptable in my eyes.

So let the journey begin, and let me share with you my blessing of fatherhood with my young nephew Cal…

AP - No problemo my friend... I have lots of stuff share regarding this...

MF - Thanks Doll... Sometimes good things come from less than ideal circumstances...

That's really cool. It sucks that unfortunate circumstances on both sides were what brought you together, but it's so great that you found each other.

Thanks for the info... and also for the extra insights.

oops - Thanks doll... We are both very lucky...

AP - The girl is doing pretty well, she is a little more resilient and outgoing even though she is younger... The real crux of the matter is the adolescent development of either gender. Unfortunately without the proper "father" role, each gender develops a certain, but much different deficiency... You won't know until your younger niece develops her personality, but I suspect she will be easier than the SN to handle!

HappySailor, I like you more every time I re-visit this story.

I have a question: How is your niece, the 9-year-old sister, doing? I ask because when my niece torpedo-ed into the world on 22 May 2009, I was hit by how different boys and girls are. I see myself kung-fu-ing imaginary enemies with my Stunt Nephew (aged 4+), but I just feel ridiculously protective about the girl. She is a lot more "physical" and assertive than her brother ever was, yet I would use a ray-gun to blast away anybody who would insult her or try to hurt her!

Thank you dog and cath!

HS... I knew there was a reason I liked you! {Well... maybe there are several but this one is the topper.}
