Being a father is sometimes a trying experience. We often get bogged down in the day-to-to day routine of getting kids ready for school, bathing them, trying to get them to eat something other than chips or chocolate.... etc etc... that we sometimes live for the special moments that remind us how privileged we are to have those little people in our lives.
This weekend our family decided to go to the circus. Something I haven't done for 20 years. We sat in the front row, which was a bad idea, because I kept getting picked on by the resident clown, who repeatedly pulled me into the ring and make me take part in performances.
Each time my three year old little girl would look on in abject horror. And when I returned to my seat she would grip my arm and hold on for dear life.
When it was over she said to her mother, "let's never go back to the circus!" And when my wife asked why she said, "because I don't like it when the clown takes my daddy!"
It's moments like that that make it all worth it.
