I don't know if you are still with this fire fighter, but I know exactly how you feel. My husband though is the Cheif of his volunteer department. He never wants to miss a call and trust me things don't change much. That pager goes off and he is out the door. Even before he was chief he was listening to that pager and the radio is on 24/7. If that is a life style that you can live with go for it, but when you are sitting there waiting for him to show up for the kids games or birthdays you will be waiting a long time, because that fire comes first.....be prepared....

I know how you feel sometimes myself. Your not beeing silly your being human! My days went from "honey what do you wanna do tonight" to "your going to the station again" it's hard like I said i'm new to this too. Heck I'm 48 yrs. old I've raised my kids there out of the house just me and my husband. so what I find myself doing is everying moment I have to be with him even if it's an hr. is spent talking about our day. Just when you think you can't hear another story you find your self waiting for him to come home and tell you another story the excitement in his voice of him helping another family saving there home. I look at it this way when he comes home not wanting to tell me stories any more then I'll worry he also needs an outlet to get everything out. You will be fine just keeping loving and always make every minute with him special as he should do the same for you.
