Yes I Am!

I don't know why I have hidden from it for so long. I am a homosexual 19 year old man, this is a fact. I am not out publicly to my family, only a few close friends. This is why I use what I think is a very interesting photo as my profile picture instead of myself, not because I am ashamed; my father hates gays and I am living with him currently. I always though that when I came out to someone I would feel better, but half of them don't believe me because I do too many "straight activities". So I just wanted to say hi and how is everyone?

If your father hates gays, it may be wise to NOT come out to him just yet. After you move out and living independently, then you may want to come out to him. Meanwhile, be discreet.

However ... understand that there is nothing wrong with being and it is perfectly natural for some people in every country and society around the world. Find out if there are any groups or organizations for young gay people. Are you going to college? A college or university is a good place to meet other gay people.

I am sure there is someone at the pride club at your college you can talk to. There are others going through exactly the same thing you are going through. Be discreet, secretive even. The time will come when you'll be out on your own, living independently, and you can do whatever you want to do.

Maybe there is a city nearby nearby that has a "gay scene" - clubs, bars, organizations, etc. I'm fortunate because I live in a big city with a large gay community center. There are a lot of organizations and meets going on. No, I don't think it is a good idea to just ask people if they are gay, unless you are fairly certain they are.

You can also try the internet. Do you know about Keep trying! You'll do fine! Good luck!

i understand, i dont think im ever gonna come out

You hid it for so long just for the same reasons that many of us here did;

1. Not 100% sure or confused. Idealy, there was a time when we all developed these gay tendencies, which ultimately confused us. Were we born with these feelings and they were triggered by some event in our lives? Maybe. Did these tendencies change and occur over time? Maybe. The point is that that for so long people tried to brand the idea that being gay is wrong, and it took time for us to figure out that not running from our feelings was totally right. Once we accepted that and we accepted the fact that we were in fact gay, the confusion turned into reality = acceptance with our innerselves.

2. Fear. What would those in the outside world think of us when we ultimately came out of the closet. I accepted my own feelings some 16 years ago and was willing to let-it-be-known, but I had minimal help in doing this. Over the years, the gay revolution turned into a real life community which ultimately makes it easier for those coming out in recent years. Fear is less widespread, but still evident. There will always be those individuals who "fear" us, and those individuals are the ones that try and suppress us - which brings fear of our own.

Being gay is a lifestyle, it's not about different decisions, activities, and or jobs. This is one of the misconceptions that "straight" people have with us as they feel that we should be etirely different since we have different lifestyles. Gay people can play football, swim, or ride horses the same as "straight" people. I for one love to play basketbal and I have seen this same misconception just about every time I step onto the court.

I am happy for you that you have been able to come out, and deffinitely understand that there is an entire community out there that accepts you and embraces you. Be strong, be confident, and be true to yourself....without being true, you will never be happy.

hey, i'm probably one of the gayest guys out there but on the outside i don't look anything like a stereotypical gay guy. I joined the United States Marine Corps, i've been in a gang, gotten into a couple of fights,. being gay doesn't define who you are just your sexual preference
