I Am a Heart Transplant Patient
My name is Aimee. I went into congestive heart failure at the age of 29 while 7 months pregnant with my daughter. I had a difficult pregnancy with many sleepless nights and difficulty breathing. I told my OB repeatedly about these problems but they were brushed off as "first time mother anxiety". I assumed she knew what she was doing and convinced mysyelf I was crazy. Well at 7 months pregnant I passed out from severe cardiomyopathy and pulmonary edema. Me ejection fracture was 8%. My heart did not get better after a c- section. It continued to get worse until I was basically given a death sentence. I was tranferred to a major cardiovascular hospital where I was given a defibrillator, pacemake and eventually a VAD. The VAD was in from February until May when I received a heart transplant. It has been a very rough few years but I'm doing much better. My daughter just turned 4 and I'm so grateful just to be here with her and my husband. I truly believe had i not been married to a nurse who knew something was wrong I would not be here. It is so important to have a good support system of friends and family. I was a new mom who could barely see my daughter for the first year of her life because I was so sick. I welcome your questions and am happy to help anyone that may be going through similar experiences. God Bless!
