A duet for two women

Under the thick dome
where the white jasmine
With the roses entwined together

On the flowering bank
Laughing at the morning
Come, let us descend together!

Let us gently glide along
With the enchanting flow
Of the fleeting current
On the rippling waves

One hand nonchalantly,
Reaches for the bank,
Where the spring sleeps,
And the bird, the bird sings.

Under the thick dome, under the white jasmine
Ah! let us descend together!

The chorus from Delibes Lakme opera. The original is in French and I think this is a poor translation but my own French isn't good enough to make it any better. The song is a duet sung by Lakme and her hand maiden, so beautiful.

I've been listening to this for the past few days, non<x>stop. It's enchantingly beautiful. Makes me pause every time.

Claire De Lune is so beautiful, it breaks my heart, like Bach's Cello suites. As I recall Fellini used some great Debussy music in his films.<br />

But there's no other piece of music like the flower duet (that I know of) that's an erotic song sung by two women... So sensual.

Delibes was a huge creative talent and this song brings tears to my eyes. I feel like I can hear the love, longing, and tenderness in the music. To me it's also very erotic. :)

I love the flower song. I listen to Claire De Lune by Claude Debussy to help me drift off to sleep.
