This hits home in so many ways, it brings tears to my eyes. I am that son and his Dad are both of my parents. My Mom is so blatant in her disdain for my lifestyle that she will often group text my sisters with invitations to family events and specifically say, don't tell your sister, we don't want her there. I am in her group text addresses so I get these messages. One such message professed her hatred towards my partner who none of my family have never met.

I have never lost a parent to death, but I have lost both parents to bigotry and hatred all in the name of God and religious beliefs. The thing is is that I love my parents and family more right at this very moment than I ever have before. That will never change. I refuse to deny my heart, even if it means losing huge chunks of it.

I really feel for you Texas, because it broke my heart and angered me to see it! I have not been in that situation because I've been fortunate enough to have a very supportive family. I just get upset because as a Mother...there's nothing my boys could do tat would make me disown them! I love them without condition...period!

I think you are a brave woman for living your life open and honestly and believe you should follow your heart. I'm sorry your parents cant see you for the beautiful woman/daughter you are, but THEY are the ones losing out here, NOT you my friend :)

I find great irony that those who profess to piously follow their "good book" seem to forget the part about their God being the only judge....It angers me that hatred hides behind religious dogma ...Unacceptable!

I couldn't agree more! That so called "Good book" is not only antiquated, but fictional if you ask me. The religious right loves to use fear, guilt and shame to condemn those who don't fit their mold and then gather every Sunday to rejoice about love and forgiveness, seems like a "Do as I say, not as I do" attitude!

I hate it when people do this, and I am christian, I know god will never do such a thing to someone! My father also did the same to me, I just chose to ignore him. Its only for there "safety", people just make stupid excuse. :/
