Awkward College Moment

Today, I was at the cafeteria on campus at the drink machine, with my plate in my hand, when I heard an "Excuse me, what does your shirt mean?" I wore my LGBT Pride shirt representing my school's GSA club. I told them that it was for the on campus GSA, and started to walk to a table. I heard the girl yell at the guys for being rude, and I heard a bunch of whispers like: "I didn't ask if she was gay!", "Is she gay?" But, I ignored them thinking I wouldn't speak to them again. Then, I saw the girl get up and make her way to my table, and she asked "Does that shirt mean you're gay?" I wasn't sure how to respond, so I simply said that yes, I am gay, but the shirt is for our organization. I'm still trying to process this moment.

If this concept is so new to them, they might think, "Surely there's no need for a straight person to be in a gay-straight-alliance!" Or an LGBT group. Because it's not like LGBT have straight friends that want to support them or anything. *eyeroll*

  I'm not worried, it was just an odd occurrence I've never experienced. I'd never worry over something like this. I told my friend and we laughed :)
