I Am a Marine Corps Girlfriend
Last night I was talking to my BF... just a little background, he has 16 1/2 years in the Corp 3 more and he's done. I met him last spring, at Marine function, that I went to with a girlfriend. Never in my WILDEST dreams did I ever anticipate dating a Marine. But I wouldn't trade any second of it.
I don't have the stories of being by his side through bootcamp, or deployments, he's been stationed local to where we are right now, although we are waiting on his orders... he could be sent to Oki for 2 years..
But one of the things I have learned over the last 9 months is how to handle when my guy gets frustrated at things... When he gets duty on a day that he requested off, or when things are suppose to happen and at the 11th hour everything gets changed. I can sense, feel, hear the frustration in his voice... and there is this feeling of hopelessness that there is nothing I can do to help... I've learned to say "no matter what I have your back" those 7 words have become a rock in our relationship. While it may not seem like much to you, I've learned it does to them... and I was reminded of that last night, as my BF and I finished chatting I told him have a good day at work tomorrow, and his response was... "I will babe, knowing you have my back." There are going to be times where all I can do is just sit and listen to him vent, there is nothing I can do to fix his situation, there is nothing I can do to make it seem less than what it is... but I can remind him that no matter what I am and will still always be there.
