Now that I am a mother I am discovering you can learn a lot from your child. They come with this wisdom and common sense that I wish we could get back now that we are adults. I try to spend a lot of time with her and hear her opinions on life and the world around her. She is so amazing and can be so funny too.
In order to have more things in common with her I am also teaching my daughter to love both my hobbies. Reading and cooking. I buy her lots of books and she loves reading and writing her own stories and rhymes. I am also teaching her how to cook. On weekend mornings , she is in "charge" of the pancakes ( I do the stove part ), but she measures and mixes and decorates all her creations, and she loves it. For lunch,I cut the veggies and she makes the salads plus the dressings ( following recipes ) and she is a very proud chef.
We share wonderful times together and she is learning something useful for her life.
We spend a lot of time in the kitchen and I have observed she feels she can talk to me about everything while we cook. And I love that.

Sure they are hard work and lots of dedication, but all the tiredness evaporates at the end of the day with a hug and a kiss. Happy holidays to you and your family. |
