Returning to Teaching After Long Hiatus

I have been at home with my three kids for 7 years. I have earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree (all paid for on my own), taught college, taken con-ed courses to up-date my skills and provide a back-up plan. I am now trying to return to my original career path - teaching. I did not realize how old I was until someone reminded me (an interviewer). I am having a hard time coming to terms with this. I sometimes think that I am the only person that has stayed home with their kids and that I have wasted the last 7 years. All my friends seem to have found that perfect balance a decade ago and never stayed home full-time and my spouse just does not understand what the big problem is because he sees me as me and not as a person competing for jobs with 20-somethings.

I don't see why youth should be an advantage in the teaching arena?<br />
Surely life experience matters?
