Rest your head on my shoulder.
It is bruised, but I am still strong enough to hold us both
Your protector has abandoned you, I understand
That is why God gave me more than one wing
One to hold you, the other to shield you from the storm
One day you will be ripped from my arms and things will never be the same, but I'm hoping you will carry the light i desperately tried to instill in you
and shine it when you feel alone without me
Your older now, you don't remember, you no longer cry but I can still sense a calm within you that reminds me of when I used to sing to you
when it was just us seeking shelter from the storm

Your head hung low
I said no words because I knew your pain was too great
Instead I offered you my embrace
I saw how tall and callous your walls were and yet I took a chance and climbed them
Laughter shadowed by pain flowed through
Your smile so bright, yet your eyes so hungry
No matter how much I tried to pull you off the ledge
My strength was no match for your demons on the other side
Still no one understands, and to me it doesn't matter
Maybe it is the child in me that no one ever rescued
Or maybe it is true love
No matter how bad the storm
when I see you drowning
There my hand will be, pulling you to safety
