Pta Today...

I doubt the PTA of today is much different than the PTA meeting my mother attended. Our PTA is supposed to meet once every month but there are a lot of "Emergency" PTA meetings for reallyinutia things like the pencil budget or 4th grade's field trips relevancy to the curriculum. All importantish topics but not emergencies. Anyways, it's in the schools auditorium, which is a room with an American flag and a large stage with a red curtain. There are folding chairs, a podium, and a table in the back with Oreo cookies and seltzer (half the reason most moms show up ) I rarely speak in these meetings because they get REALLY political. An innocent comment can be contorted and re-worded to make you sound like a monster. But that's the animosity you find in most PTA's I assume. My area particularly has a lot of mothers with no jobs and no hobbies who become OBSESSED with the PTA, and when they're trying to do something like fundraising or get a bill passed just GET OUT OF THEIR WAY. But I think PTA is a great program, it empowers me to have a day in my kids education.
