I Am a Romantic
I feel her next to me. I love the closeness. I feel her warmth, her breathing. I feel her whole self, with me, sharing with me. I hear the ocean, I feel the breeze, a hint of her perfumed scent upon it and I am at peace.
"Just hold me, don't let go."
"I won't"
"Did you know this would happen?"
"No, not at all."
"It was really nice."
"It was right, perfect."
Then there was quiet. The sound of the ocean. Now and then the sound of a car passing, going or coming, oblivious to us, not affecting our peace.
"I love the stars," she said.
"I do, too. They're so beautiful. Sometimes they're obscured by the clouds, but you know they're always there. They stay where they're supposed to be, where they're most beautiful. They afford opportunities for unlimited imagination." I was deep in thought. "You are beautiful, too."
A sliver of a moon shone above the Eastern horizon. She wrapped me in her arms and held me close, her warm skin under the blanket touching mine the length of our bodies.
"Will this happen again?"
"I don't know."
"Are you glad?"
"Yes."
"Are you sure?"
My warm, gentle kiss told her I'd never been sure of anything. She lay her head on my chest and we were. We just were.
