I used to do simultaneous interpreting for the government, both mine and the Japanese. It really keeps you on your toes trying to work between different grammatical structures so that you have to anticipate what the speaker is saying to keep up. Sometimes you get it wrong and have to correct it. It's like having two brains, one in one language and the other in a different one. The grammatical structures differ widely between many languages.

| Posted May 5th, 2009 at 9:41PM That phrase is one of the first I learned in the several languages I studied. It helps. We make a joke, calling what those kids speak ...Spanglish. |
