Not Someone to Look Up to

I have a younger brother. We're 7 years apart and sometimes I feel like I'm not setting a good example for him. I'm always getting into it with my parents over something or other and by chance, he always seems to be present when it happens. Usually, my parents won't say anything too harsh in front of him but a few months ago, my dad found a pack of cigarettes in my bag and decided to confront me about it with the whole family present. My mom then asked me what other negative things I've done and to be honest with her, so I told her about the parties I've been to, all the alcohol I've consumed, and the lies I've been feeding them. I know my brother looks up to me but I don't feel like he should. I don't want him to follow in my footsteps. I don't think I'm a very good sister to him. Sometimes when I promise him that we'll do things together, I break the promise when a friend calls me and asks me to go out. I'm honestly working on being a better sister to him and a better person in general, it just gets hard sometimes.

Stop talking about doing stuff with him and do
if you have to write it on your door and mirror so you'll remember. i did the same as you, being the oldest, i always got in trouble. we grew apart and for so many years we didn't really talk because i didn't take the time. i am finally starting to get the friendship back.
don't let this happen to you
go
