They Are My Best Friends
I was lucky in that I had a lot in common with them...dancing and sports with my sister, sports and getting to work with my brother. We had a strong bond with each other.
During my last year of university, my brother and sister went off to live in Scotland for half a year. Unfortunately I didn't get to go, as I was so close to being done my education. Today it is one of my very few regrets that I never went. But upon my graduation, my parents sent me over to Europe for a month to travel with them...and it was the greatest gift I've ever been given....the chance to become more than siblings....the chance to become friends.
That month together solidified our friendship, sharing so many amazing experiences...and I know the two of them feel the same about it. It is now almost 11 years later, we are all married, my sister lives 2 hours away, and my brother lives in another country. It kills my sister and I to not have him near. We are often told "Well you have a great place to go and visit". Said by those that may not have a close relationship with their own siblings. They will never understand that having a nice place to visit is never any consolation for him not being here. But my sister and I are close, and we talk to him often.
What a blessing it has been to have them in my life. Friends will come and go...loves may even come and go...but my brother and sister are my constant, and I love them more than anything!!!
