I grew up in a very rural town where everyone knows everyone, half the people own some kind of farm and where all the houses are empty on Sunday from 10 to 11:30. The shops and restaurants are all scattered so their isn't really one downtown. It gets busier in the summer do to its location by the ocean but it's still pretty quiet.

A common misconception about small town is that they are generally very whitebred. While my town is predominantly white, one-fifth are minorities.

Another common misconception is that everyone wants to stay safe in their hometown and only one wants to go out and "experience the world". This is far from true. In fact, I only know about two other people who like me are content just having a family and growing old here.

I love being a small town girl and wouldn't trade my hometown for the world.
