Can You Eat The Foam Letters?

Little James will eat all sorts of non-edible things: the soft rubbery surfacing of the playground, his jumper, bits of the swing seats, the big foam letters we use to teach... so the other day, I had a chat to him about what you can and can't eat. "You can eat sandwiches, bananas, apples, crisps, chocolate... but you can't eat the playground or the foam letters!!"

A few minutes later, James was eating the foam letters again, so I said: "James! Can you eat the foam letters?!"

James smiled one of his heart-melting smiles and said, in his whisper voice: "Yeees!" He clearly wanted to joke. I said "No you can't!" and tickled him.

Now he often will ask me, with a cheeky grin on his face:

James: "Can you eat a train?"
Me: "I don't know James, can you eat a train?"
James (wide cheeky smile): "Yeeeeeees!"
Me (tickling James): "No you can't, no you can't, no you can't!"

And James will ask...
"Can you eat the sky?"
"Can you eat a tree?"
"Can you eat an aeroplane?"
"Can you eat a helicopter?"

And of course his favourite:

"Can you eat the foam letters?"

Always with the same amazing, cheeky, heart-melting laugh.
