Corps Year: 2006

Undergraduate Institution: University of Richmond

Hometown: Gardena, California

School: Deady Middle School

Grade/Subject: 7th Grade Reading

What kinds of goals would you like for your students to achieve this year?

Officially, I have created three class-wide goals accomplish with my students:

1) To have each of them read at least 2013 pages independent reading

2) To have them learn at least 213 new and useful vocabulary words

3) To have each of them pass the TAKS and gain least two years in reading growth

What are your goals for yourself as a teacher?

want to be a teacher that will inspire them things they never thought possible; the teacher entrusts them and enables them to work with beyond seventh-grade-level reading; the teacher that gives explanation as to why they need to learn how to at higher levels… I want to make things applicable and accessible to them in real-world terms. want them to realize that they can work harder achieve more than they thought they could. I them to learn about life outside the borders of city. The world is bigger than they are; they need only know that, but also want to learn about it.

What has surprised you about teaching?

My kids … don’t let their ages fool you, they act like little adults! I was prepared for many of the things that my students bring into the classroom, but surprises still abound!
