Little Ones Can Be FunnyIn my career as a substitute I have had some amazing experiences. Some of them stand out over the years.
This particular time I found myself in a first grade class. I had been a substitute at this particular school before and actually partnered with the teacher. He requested me when he knew that he was going to be absent.
Early in the day these children had penmanship books. This day they were to work on the letter V.
This class was arranged in tables that seated four children. Each table had a pair of children facing each other.
I walked around the class as was happy to see that they were all on task. The first line was to be all capital Vs.
V V V V V V V V V V V V
The next line was all lower case vs.
v v v v v v v v v v v v v
Then the next line alternated upper and lower case vs.
V v V v V v V v V v V v
Now each child was supposed to be writing the exact same thing, which is why what on little boy did surprised me. As I was walking past him he grabbed my jacket and started vigorously tugging.
“Teacher!” he exclaimed while pointing at a girl who sat across from him. “She’s copying me!”
My knees actually buckled and how I kept from laughing I’ll never know.
