I Am a United States Air Force Girlfriend
Hey everybody. My name is Gjertrud Djupvik, and I'm from Norway. last year(2011) I decided to take a year as an exchange student in the US. Before I went down there, I promised myself not to fall in love. I managed to keep this promise, till a special someone came across my path. I fell in love, and it ended up being the best year of my life. This is where I met my love, Chad. We got to spend an amazing year together, but the time came for me to return to my home country. That was, hands down, the hardest thing I have ever done. Even though we knew the day would come, it didn't make it any easier to say goodbye. Luckily, as a graduation present from his parents, he got to visit me in Norway for a whole month. Best month of my life! Saying goodbye this time was even harder. It was like I could feel my heart break inside my chest. You see, he had decided to join the US Air Force, a choice that made me very proud. However, this meant that we had no idea when we'd see each other again.
He is now in his 7th week of basic training, graduating in less than two weeks! Due to the huge distance from Norway and the US, I won't be able to be there to support him. I was planning on visiting him in February while he's in Tech School, but it turns out that's not gonna work. As of now, I'm hoping he'll get a leave for Christmas. If he does, my wonderful parents have decided to give me a ticket to the US as a Christmas present! It would mean the world to me.
Thank you all for posting your stories, gives me the feeling of that I'm definitely not alone in this!!
