So Im Kind Of Confused?? Maybe You Can Clear This Up..

SO I have read posts on cell phone use and everything and I am still kind of worried about it. He brought his cell phone with him but no pre paid phone card! If his TI is a douchebag is there a chance he takes his cell phone and only allows them to use their prepaid phone cards?? He didn't bring a pre paid phone card even though it was on his list because he thought he would be able to use his cell phone according to the new cell phone policy... Should I send him a pre paid phone card or just stop freaking out? HAHA.

Today is the 12th day of him being gone and I really was hoping I would hear from him today but it doesn't look like thats going to happen :(. Hopefuly next week. The reason why I ask is if I need to give him that pre paid card I would need to send it in the mail tomorrow which is why I am asking today :). So he can get it in time! OHHH man I hope hes doing ok :(. I wish I could have gotten some kind of call today for some reassurance but looks like I gotta wait until next week to see :(.

THIS IS SOO TOUGH :(

my guy has been gone for a month and he has only gotten to call once! I was at work so i missed the call but he left a voicemail [which i listen to all the time]. So im not sure about the whole calling thing.. Tips anyone?

and im not sure if in correct, but most payphones will let you call collect. so if they dial like 1-800-col-lect it will tell them to put the number in.... that means that whoever they are calling will be charged for the call, (it is REALLY expensive)... but better than nothing. the military might have some sort of block from that... but theres a chance he could do that... or someone might let him borrow some quarters.. u never know. just contact lackland and see what u can do.

My Husbands TI would take the Battery and give it back when they were allowed to call, He only got to call 3 times. He bought a phone card before he left and never used it. A waste of 30 dollars for sure. The guys can buy the cards if they need them at the Mini-mall when they go to buy supplies.

I will and once they tell me I am going to express mail that crap tuesday HAHA. Because if that is the truth then he is probably kicking himself in the butt for not bringing one haha.

Oh gosh!! That makes me nervous! You would think that there would be a place on base for them to buy a prepaid phone card just because I know that kolt said that there was a small store type thing to get toothpaste and amenities like that. Well, I will try and call the lackland afb tomorrow to see if I am able to send out a prepaid phone card. Thats so odd because on the list of things to bring it said for him to bring his cell phone charger but maybe thats just for the last week??? Gosh I wish I had answers to these questions HAHA so confusing... I know the new rule was made January of 2010 because thats what his recruiter said but I have no idea haha. CONFUSING.

Ohhhh goodness, now I'm worried haha....Let me know what the people at Lackland say about sending phonecards!!

my boyfriend has been gone for 3 weeks and i just got my first call today. but heres what i know so far. my boyfriend took his cell phone and the T.I.'s took them away or made them lock them up (not sure exactly which one).....and then he got to make a phone call a few days after he got there to give someone his address. So the t.i.'s gave their phones back to save time because that way not everyone was waiting to use the pay phone. when I talked to my boyfriend today, he called from the pay phone..... he said that his phone had died and they dont let you charge it.... so good thing he had a prepaid phone card to use. and the patio times are sort of like a "break". the patio is where the payphones are located....and their t.i. could say "you have a 15 minute break so make your calls short" because theyre all waiting to use the payphone. today i got to talk to my boyfriend for ten minutes. im not sure if other people from his flight got to use their cells again but i know his was dead so he wouldnt have been able to either way. There might be a place on base where he could buy a phone card, but if i were you i would go to lackland air force base's website and get the number and call them and ask if you can send him a phone card in the mail. im sure theyll let him receive something like that but it wouldnt hurt to double check. and as for the new cell phone policy, they are suppose to get one call a week, but the t.i.'s dont give a damn about the rule, it all depends on when they want to let you call. like i said, they didnt let my boyfriends flight call for almost 3 weeks. if one person messes up or gets in trouble the t.i.'s can take their phone priveleges away for the week. also, when i talked to my boyfriend today he said he was finally able to mail out a letter to me for the first time in three weeks today! so it all depends on their t.i.'s, some will let them call every week and some wont. try calling lackland and see if u can send him a phone card out because im sure he would love that. good luck and hopefully u get ur call soon :)

the cell phone thing is a relatively new thing, i cant remember exactly when they allowed them using cell phones over pay phones but im pretty sure theres a story on here somewhere that someone posted about it. Mike graduated Oct 23 & they took away his cell phone & he only got to use the pay phone & he had to use the prepaid card. im not entirely sure what the rules are on using the cell phones but i DO know that Mike was able to buy prepaid phone cards @ the BX to use on the payphone in leu of his cell phone...Dont freak out! im sure youll hear from him soon, it usually takes some time about 3 weeks if his TI is a real douche (like Mikes was)

Yes, "Patio Time," its like, their free time. Mostly they use this time to call. Usually, they take their phones away when they get there and they get them back graduation weekend. Jeremy didn't bring his phone and his parents got him a new one grad weekend so he didn't use his phone and did calling cards instead. But I think there's this new rule where you CAN take cell phones and you CAN use them for your weekend calls. So I'd say wait it out if your boy has his phone, it seems like lately they text their girls before the call, so it must be true. But if you get worried and time is passing, maybe try a card. I think you can get them at like, deli's 7/11's, places like that. Drugs stores maybe. I hope someone else can help better than me. Haha

Oh- question!! I know this sounds silly but if I need to buy him a phone card, what do they look like and where do you get them? I've seen the prepaid cards for cell phones but not for payphones. I'm guessing you can just get them at walmart or something?

THank you for the information :). I hope they will at least be able to let us know if they need a prepaid phone card because then I can just send one out to him if hes unable to get one. I will definitely keep you updated uberlove :) and hopefully we hear from our men next week :). Ill make a post when I receive the first letter or first call!

My boyfriend took only his cell phone and so far his TI has let him use it once a week. (i can never predict which day tho) But he called me last Friday and said something about getting "patio" something (sry still getting used to military lingo) and he said that he thinks he can only use a prepaid phone card during that time so he's going to get one (idk how).....I know this isn't much but I hope it helps....=

I'll let you know if you let me know about your updates from your guy too, lol. :) I really hope that isn't the case though, that the TI's take away the cell phones. Hopefully we'll get our calls next weekend; I know some girls didn't get their first phone call 'till the third week after their guys had been gone. I guess only the lucky ones get the calls on the second week, grr! haha. oh well. guess we'll just cross our fingers and let each other know what's goin' on. :)

awww im sorry girly! I hope the rumors aren't true! I heard from a few people outside of this forum that some TIs actualy take AWAY the cell phones until the last few days at BMT I really hope thats not true because he didn't bring a prepaid phone card ahhh! IM tempted to just send one out tomorrow I dont know :(. Definitely keep me updated uberlove on when you heard from him and stuff and if he says anything about the prepaid phone card :). What flight is your boyfriend at? Mine is 322 TRS/FLT 309. Let me know :)

I hadn't even thought about that. I know my boyfriend brought his cell phone and everything but didn't bring a phone card either. My boyfriend has also been gone that long and I've heard nothing from him since last Thursday when he got his address. I was hoping for a phone call today but doesn't look like it's happening. I really hope someone knows about TI's taking away cell phones. Hopefully if that happens they'd at least get a chance to tell us to send phone cards in a letter. UGhhhh who knows. This definitely *is* tough. :(

Hmmm, I'm not sure on the rules, but I know Jeremy always used his phone cards and his mom was constantly sending more. It's worth a shot.
