Thank You For Your Service

Hi Ladies
This week has been my first as the girlfriend of a deployed US soldier. So far I've been keeping it together and staying busy, until I went to the post office yesterday. I was mailing my first package to my bf with some goodies and things he'd forgotten. I put it in one of the express flat rate boxes that they make just for sending to the troops. When I got up to the counter, the clerk took my package, looked at the APO address, and then looked at me.
"Who do you know whos serving?" he asked. I told him that my bf had just left and I was sending him some things. The clerk looked at me and said, "Thank you for your service".
I was really thrown off when he said that. I was like, "um, I'm not serving. He is". And the clerk looked at me again and said "Yes, but the loved ones serve here at home"

I got back to my car and bawled. Military gfs don't get a lot of recognition, his support and admiration for us made all the difference.

Keep your chins up ladies. Hope you and your men are doing well.

i love that! army girlfriends are never recognized for all we do.. my boyfriend was just deployed saturday.. it's been my first full week too..

awww that's really sweet!!! we do seem to get over-looked by some people as 'just the girlfriends'. We aren't married to them yet, but we go through deployment with them. It's still just as hard. I'm glad someone recognized that! Stay strong girl :)
