A New Life Change

I struggled for such a long time trying to figure out what the best way was for me to get fit and stay that way.  I eat nutritiously and often in order to keep insulin levels low and I enjoy it but I just could not get my body to look the way I wanted it to.  Finally my boyfriend, a meat head, convinced me that I should just start lifting weights.  I already was lifting weights just not very hard and I never had a goal of increasing weight so I never really pushed myself hard in that area. 

Finally when I did the results were awesome.  It doesn't happen over night but things def change in your body.  I am the type of person who can push herself to do more but find it very difficult to restrain herself, so lifting works perfect for me.  I can push harder and not feel guilty when I want a brownie or something.  I like it too because a workout in the morning or whenever continues working out your body through the rest of the day.  Everyone has heard that "muscle burns more than fat" but girls just seem to ignore it.  Aerobics will burn the calories but lose the muscle, lifting burns calories and puts on muscle which means you continue to burn calories at a higher rate during the rest of your day. 

I love it too because I have always wanted to be an athletic girl, I want to be muscular, I want to be powerful in mind and body and lifting is definitely the way for me to do it. 

I think the hardest thing overall to be a girl who lifts is the fact that most likely none of your friends do.  I have plenty of girl friends and none of them are interested in spending an hour at the gym or even gaining any muscle.  Its so frustrating because they think if they pick up a 5 lb weight and do 10 reps they're going to be jacked in the next day.  It's obviously not true, I have been pushing my arms more and more and am lifting higher weight, they're getting stronger but it barely shows at all! ....but try telling your friends that....

 

I definitely wish I had a lifting partner to help push me and spot me on those tired days....

I do lift with my boyfriend :) which has been great, only thing is we are long distance - so I get to see him on weekends and lift then but during the week I am on my own. That will all change next year though, soon we should be able to lift together on week nights :)<br />

Great for you! I lift with my wife and its not that big a deal. Why not lift with your Boyfriend?
