My Life... In Metal... In A Nutshell.

I, like many 'young' metal fans, was born too darn late. I'm just 23.

There are... endless amounts of bands that I wish I could have seen and so many gigs that I wish I'd had the chance to go to. Pantera is the main one. Then, old school Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer etc gigs. I have currently been to eight music festivals, since age 18, 5 here in the UK, 2 in Germany and 1 in Switzerland. I've been to a LOT of gigs but, my taste in metal has varied since the first gig I went to.

My first gig was... one of Metallica's S&M nights. Age 10. With my Dad who was once a huge Metallica fan. That was the epiphany. I'd grown up hearing metal in the house but never listened to it. That night changed my life. It was so powerful that I've now seen Metallica 12 times since then. I'm also a fanclub member, just like my Dad once was.

It took me no less than seven years to go to my next music event. It was Metallica driven again. I fell in love with music festivals at Download Festival 2006. Castle Donington. That weekend, Metallica played Master of Puppets right through from start to finish and it was beautiful stuff. Amazing weather, camping fun and killer music.

At age 18, I was very into a mix of metalcore and melodic death. Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom etc. I saw a lot of bands like that in 2006. Progressing through 2007 & 2008, I saw a total of 22 different 'major' gigs. These included Metallica at Wembley Stadium, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Machine Head and a few more. I also went to Download Fest '07 & '08.

Around November 2008, I -bored and upset at university- decided to enter a competition to win tickets to see Metallica (again) and meet the band in Sheffield. Thinking nothing of it, I just forgot about it. On the 26th of February 2009, I got the shock of my life. I'd won the competition I'd entered. I was going to meet the men that quite simply changed my life. Merely a week after my 21st birthday. What a mindblowing experience that was.

I've met Metallica again since then. In 2009, I discovered a website linking to Sonisphere Festivals after checking out Metallica's official site. Tick off the festival that made me forget Download even existed. Where Download was becoming more pop-y, Sonisphere was a new, heavy festival. It did NOT disappoint. Not one bit. Currently, I've been to Sonisphere UK '09, Switzerland '10 (MUDSCHWIL) & UK '10.

In the shortest and most Metallica geared blog about music I've ever written, that brings us bang up to date.

In just under 5 weeks, I am off to Sonisphere UK '11. The Big Four are headlining. Along with Slipknot and some band called Biffy Clyro. I cannot wait. My camping stuff is airing already and I've tested out barbecuing stuff again. Building up my drinking ability.

Hello summer.

I see you're local

Did you know that LIverpool 02 Academy, 28 Sept, has a tribute double bill to Metallica & Guns 'N' Roses?

Last Metalhead I dated took me back to her flat & told me to lie down on the big double bed well she freshened up ready

I was horrified to see a Murder Dolls poster facing the bed

It was years ago & I can't recall it exactly, but there was multiple mutual sexual strangulation going on: seen it?

I jokingly said, "Have ya brought me here to kill me?"

She said, "It's just a joke, but my fav roleplay game is dominatrix & slave, so stretch your neck out & let me tickle you to death"

Her technique was to tickle you helpless before giving a sharp squeeze to make ya gag, then soothe it, then repeat the cycle, explaining why the neck is scientifically proven to be the mst responsive erogenous zone, as all nerves connecting to the brain must pass thru the neck

She was expert at timing her switches from tickle to throttle to caress to choke to fondle to strangle

Then she asked me to return the favor

Real fans work in twos & make you say the band name, so they can take it as instruction

Murder, Dolls

Then they bury you in the garden

Or sell you for curry production

Ever noticed restaurants next to undertakers?

"Soylent Green is people"

What a movie punchline, eh?
