Jeeze, I'm sorry - how horrible! I am terribly afraid of fire, as well. ( lightning, too - been hit, before ) A long time ago, I had a really scary experience, although it was NOTHING compared to yours. I was 18, my husband and I had only been married for a few months, and I was newly pregnant, at the time. The apartment building right next to ours caught fire. I was home alone, and taking a shower, when the firemen came beating on the door, and yelling for everyone to evacuate. I threw on a robe, grabbed my purse, and our cat, and headed out the front door. When I got outside, everything was an blazing inferno, and the tall pine trees in front of our building had begun to catch, as well. Sparks and embers were raining down on us, as we fled. The smoke was so thick, and black, that it was hard to see anything. I had to be evacuated by police unit, as I was home alone, with no car. The whole experience was just awful. But, what I really could not get over, was how "unaware" I was, ( shower noise, I guess ), that all of this was going on right outside. I had nightmares for a long time afterwards. We wound up moving a few months later.
