I Learned The Hard Way

I received a Siamese cat as a gift once and unfortunately she was de-clawed when I received her. She was an indoor cat- had never even been outside- but one day a guest who didn't know any better let her out of the house. We looked everywhere for her and finally found her, hours later, drowned in our pool. She had no claws to pull herself out with when she had fallen in.

It was the most tragic thing- my family and I mourned for a long time and felt so guilty. I still get upset when I think about it. I am strongly against stripping animals of their inborn defenses.

If you don't like the claws, don't have a cat. It's that simple. Cats need their claws for all sorts of things. One of our cats used to jump up on the dinner table whilst we were eating. He'd extend just one claw and use it to skewer a pea from our plates and then eat it.

declawing should be illegal

I'm so sorry. When I was little, I found our family cat. He had jumped off of our deck and died (he was only 6 years old). <br />

I agree with you completely.
