The ascendency, political and otherwise, of baby boomers is over. We've had our time on the public stage and a lot of you younger folk are keen to see us shut up and clear out!

One thing endures. The popular music of 1965-80, now called classic rock, still fills the airwaves, still sells in CD stores, and is still played at student parties. But name one baby boomer fiction author.

The oldest baby boomers were born in 1946 and hence are 66 this year. The youngest were born in 1964, the last year before the Pill began having a major effect on the fertility of married women. (Internet chatter about sex almost never mentions the Pill. It is either taken for granted, or has declined in popularity.) At any rate, the oldest baby boomers have retired, and most are empty nesters planning for retirement. This is a looming crisis for all industrial nations. This is the deep reason why Europe is bankrupt; they can't afford the state pensions they've promised. The same is true of the 15 million people who work for state & local govt. in the USA -- their pensions are unaffordable.

I'm guess I'm going to be one of the very few women, who actually agrees with you. My husband and I practice very traditional roles, and honestly we couldn't be happier for it. Our children are well rounded, healthy, respectful individuals. They never have to see their parents argue, because quite frankly we don't. I'm not a doormat, my husband listens to my opinion and values it, but, if we disagree I will defer to him. I gave up the fight to be right long ago. Every day I strive to show this man love, respect, devotion and honor. We have the happiest union of anyone I've ever seen. I started this journey later than I would have liked to. I read an article on enotes not to long ago, a viewpoint from a man named Steven E. Rhoads, a professor of goverment @ the University of Virginia, his point of view follows, men and women have biologically prescribed behaviors that complement each other in marriage. Marriages flourish when men are dominant breadwinners and females are homemakers. He contends that while males are biologically and culturally suited to exercise power, women are suited to nurturing children. Later states, in regards to women as breadwinners, questions of income aside, there are, of course, marriages where women have more power. Do such marriages make women happy? One survey of over 20 studies on marital power found that wife-dominant couples were the least happy, and the wives in wife-dominated unions were less happy than their husbands. Helen Andelin once stated, that if the feminist movement did not stop fighting, for the right to work, women one day would have no choice. That's exactly where we are in today's society. Most familes need two incomes, while mothers feel the constant pull to stay home and raise their children. I find myself very lucky and count my blessing daily, that my husband can afford to provide for us all. Thanks for sharing...

Feminism destroying the West? I do not agree.

However, I very much concur with this: feminism is slowly contributing to the destruction of Western men. Particularly American men.

I'm glad you got to take a look. When I viewed you profile it indicated that it had been quite a while since your last visit, hence I thought I had missed the boat connecting with you. The sad reality is; we have all been played for so long we have been deceived as to who we really are. Manipulation of social graces have destroyed the very basis of our existence as men and women.

Take care and I'll give you site a gander.

Caliper, thanks for the comment! The article on being a man by Henry Makow was excellent! I have missed the boat of family as he has, and career through the denied natural reward of my labor by bankers (The Fed) and political incorrectness. I wanted all my ducks in a row before family; I wasn't looking for parenting bailout after **** poor planning. I wish I had Makow's fatherly advice when I was young. And I wish I would have understood that the trend is your friend. I would have played politics at work if I could do it over again. I wrote a poem called "Ode to the Single Mother," posted online in my The Cerebral Freedom newsletter, Vol. 2, No. 3. You would be one of the few who would get it, and it kicks ***. I hope feminists enjoy their freedoms when they have freed themselves from civilized freedom along with domestic manhood. I know it will hurt and I may not survive, but I long for civic reciprocity worthy of my civilized sophistication. I would choose quality over quantity so that freedom does not perish from the face of the earth. Too bad Lincoln ruled out peaceful State secession.

I am going to disagree with your opinion.

Woman are capable and do jobs that men could only do. There are women barristers, police officers, social workers, judges, politicians, doctors, nurses, builders etc etc. Both genders are equipped with a brain and have the right to use it and make actions because of it, one could argue men and women think slightly differently, woman being more emotional and men being more rational but i personally believe that to be a tactic employed by the dominant male many years ago in order ti control woman, like woman are brought up to wear pink dresses and boys - trousers. Its a social coersion and we are finally free of that.

We should salute women, for they truly experience pain ranging from menstruation, childbirth, menopause, we are also grafters who work equally on gardening and other physically demading jobs. I'm not at all trying to slate men, i just want those that think woman should be put in her rightful place really need to give this some proper thought from all angles. Hail equality!

In the past women couldn't even vote! Women stayed home and took orders from their husbands and men had no problem with ordering adult women around and treating them like children OR having a woman child for a mate. Feminism HAS helped immeasurably in righting so many sickening wrongs.

Very good points, feminism was funded heavily by the Rockefeller Foundation and directed by the CIA. Women were repeatedly told to give up running their households and putting their family first in exchange for (in a lot of cases) mundane careers. The children would spend more time in the care of the state. The women joined the income tax. The "good" reason was to give women a fair shake in the workforce... The "real" reasons had nothing to do with equality. We have been "had". I have been in the workforce for 30 years, and I do not feel "liberated" at all, nothing could be further from the truth, I am just another tax slave.
