Honest Abe Said It Well!

"You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom.

"What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The Government cannot give to anybody anything that the Government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is surely the end of any nation's future."

everyone who is of voting age who did not vote or voted Republican should be ashamed of themselves..we have run up our debt without ever paying it off or taking care of ourselves. when 1/3 of our population is in nursing home, living in squaler draing what little resources we have there will be no bail-out...there will just be mass poverty...we need the bail-out, right or wrong, because we have done nothing right in 30 plus years. Greed has led us to this point...remember "trickle down"...iran-Contra, The first iraq war...the second iraq war...bear-sterns, the housing bubble...fannie and freddie...ect. ect. ect.

I've seen this "quote" in a lot of places on the net, but none of them ever cites where or when Lincoln supposedly said it, or in what context. It sure sounds a lot more like something an enraged right-wing talk radio host would say than the man who once really DID say, "With malice toward none; with charity for all..."<br />

Just curious; can anyone come up with an authoritative citation?

I agree 100%. I've heard a lot of "it's about time." In need is 1 thing. Greed is another!

people give for more of what they have and of themselves when it comes from the heart and not because they are forced to by someone else.
