Picasso In His Own Words

All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.

Art is not the application of a canon of beauty but what the instinct and the brain can conceive beyond any canon. When we love a woman we don't start measuring her limbs.

Everything is a miracle. It is a miracle that one does not dissolve in one's bath like a lump of sugar.

Everything you can imagine is real.

Give me a museum and I'll fill it.

I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money.

If all the ways I have been along were marked on a map and joined up with a line, it might represent a minotaur.

If only we could pull out our brain and use only our eyes.

If there were only one truth, you couldn't paint a hundred canvases on the same theme.

It takes a long time to become young.

It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.

Painting is a blind man's profession. He paints not what he sees, but what he feels, what he tells himself about what he has seen.

Sculpture is the art of the intelligence.

The world today doesn't make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?

Who sees the human face correctly: the photographer, the mirror, or the painter?

Youth has no age.

Hi amysangels
I thought of you when I read that quote! I liked it takes a long time to become young!
His paintings and sculptures are even better than his words!
:)

I love the quotes.i liked mostly 'it took me 4 yrs to paint like raphael but a lifetime to paint like a child' .i wish many ppl could read this quote

Hi FreeFallWall
glad you liked the quotes my friend. I think that when the history of the 20th Century is written in the future Picasso will be recognized as being a pivotal figure in avoiding Nuclear War. Art communicates what is essential between people and Picasso showed Life was better than death to both sides. Amazing man.
:)

Everything created by him and everything i've read about him just goes to show how uniquely gifted he was as a person and as an artist.

Loved reading these koyptakh :) Thanks for sharing!

I think if we could see inside most people's minds they'd seem pretty nonsensical anyhow ... he just chose to display his on canvas!

Hi womanibbles
One of the paintings I saw at the exhibition had a cat being scared of a lobster. I thought Picasso had just chosen to color a lobster blue but I have since found out there are naturally occurring blue lobsters which had color pigment missing. I just thought it was funny to get this information after seeing his painting. Maybe his painting is not so nonsensical as it sometimes seems! It was a great painting. Really funny and clever!
:)

fantastic koyptakh ... great to read his words ... he was truly one of the best and indeed, why should anyone's paintings make sense? Who holds the torch in terms of what is valid or invalid, or considered art or not? Very interesting.

Hi Francescanolonger
I went to an exhibition: Picasso Peace and Freedom:

It was very interesting to see the artist in his Historical and Political Context. I was left with the feeling he may have saved The World from The Cold War. His Peace symbol so powerful yet so simple.

I would love to go to Barcelona too.
Best wishes
:)

I went to the Picasso museum in Barcelona. His paintings were arranged chronologically. It was very interesting to witness the evolution of the artist.
