It irritates the hell out of me that so many Americans missed the point of this day, memorial day. There are 364 other days to show your respect and appreciation for my fellow veterans and service men. Memorial day is just that, a memorial, for those that have died serving our country. Today we should honor and show our respect for those that have died serving our country in time of war or conflict, or that have died due to injury caused by war or conflict. So don't be distracted by the big mattress sales etc. and forget what this is really about. Pres. Ronald Ragan I think stated it best:

"I have no illusions about what little I can add now to the silent testimony of those who gave their lives willingly for their country. Words are even more feeble on this Memorial Day, for the sight before us is that of a strong and good nation that stands in silence and remembers those who were loved and who, in return, loved their countrymen enough to die for them. Yet, we must try to honor them -- not for their sakes alone, but for our own. And if words cannot repay the debt we owe these men, surely with our actions we must strive to keep faith with them and with the vision that led them to battle and to final sacrifice."

There are a LOT of people that do not miss the point of Memorial Day. Usually there are parades, ceremonies etc. in the morning in the cities on the Square and/or town cemetary. Start attending those ceremonies to pay your respects. You may just start a new tradition!

Amen brother, Semper Fi.

Agree!! We should give respect everyday!! they gave all for what we have.. no days off! vacation time!

First and most of all...thank you so much for your service to this great country of ours. I think a lot of people forget that Memorial Day should be a day for remembering those men who have served and died protecting the freedoms that we love and cherish today.

**** you.

Normally, I would not respond to such a comment, but, since your profile says you're lucky enough to be an American, i'll make an exception today. Great men and women have lay down their lives, so little boys like you can make such remarks. I respect that, I did notice some of the other things on your profile. but know this, count your blessings that you are an American, guaranteed, you would not fair so well in other countries with the things you believe it. So with that, God bless and just pray that no one finds out who you really are. :-)

You and every other "servicemember" are ******* ********. You have done nothing to protect my freedoms whatsoever and you constantly ***** them from others, claiming you are freeing them. What, you think they're going to go to heaven and be free? No. Support freedom on EARTH.

I would like to give my sincere apology to you for all those boys and girls that must've beat the hell out of you in school. But I would like to inform you, that is not the military's job, to protect you in school. We leave that up to the lunch ladies or hall monitors etc. so again, I apologize for all the torment you went to as a kid and probably to this day. I hope you get to help you so badly need.

It IS the military's job to defend the country from invasion. When is the last time the US military defended the country from invasion? Oh, what's that? Never? I see.

Also, explain to me how the **** you're protecting ANYONE'S freedoms by charging into other countries completely uninvited and opening fire on civilians.

You are the one who needs help.

I know it is not in your job description to protect me in school and I don't expect you to. In fact, it's not in your job description to protect freedoms, at all, and you DON'T, so I have no ******* clue why you consistently claim to do so.
