The College Experience

I wasn't really into art in Highschool. I thought it was sorta neat and my two best friends really liked it, so I went along and made some art with them.

It wasn't until I took Drawing 1 in college that I realized just how wonderful art is. When I was in Highschool, one of my best friends is naturally amazing at drawing, so anything I made paled in comparision (Basically, I thought I wasn't good). In that class was when I realized the beauty of creating art. How freeing it is.

In fact, it was such a realization that I changed my mind about what I wanted to do "when I grow up". Now I'm wanting to go to an art school and major in Game Art & Design. I want to become a video game concept designer.

But until then, I'm happy to be at this school where my art teacher lets me go above and beyond his class assignments. Today we're actually setting up a uber-complicated still life so we can sketch and watercolor the heck out of it.

That's one thing I didn't expect to love: watercoloring. I had tried it in the past with kiddie paints, but that's nothing compared to using tubes and little cakes of watercolors. I love mixing the colors together to find just the right shade of purple or green or whatever I'm looking for. I love how mixing red and green can create a beautiful shade of purple and how blue and orange make a great brown. I love the way watercolors are layered to make deep and rich paintings.
