The World Isn't All Pleasant.

I'm an artist, but all my art is "depressing" and "grim" and apparently brings people down. There is a thing called the MONA museum in my town; half of it has beautiful Egyptian artifacts and gorgeous paintings, the other half is dark, disturbing and confronting art. We went on a school excursion to MONA one day, everyone else spent their time looking at the pretty jewelry and nice portraits. I spent my time looking a list of people's funeral songs, and looking at very cruel and sadistic words carved into a persons shoulder...

These are actual emotions, to me anyway.

They illicit an actual response from the viewer, not just dull, same-y happiness..

It takes an open minded person to appreciate all kinds of art. What may be vulgar and obscure to one person, can be beautiful and intriguing to another. The whole point of art is to conjure emotion, whether it be good or bad, it serves a purpose. I can dig the dark stuff =) Keep doing what you're doing and be proud of it! Show it off and maybe make some people uncomfortable. That's their problem, not yours. Best of luck!
