ok i need help on monochrome painting, if im using one colour what do i do to change the tones of that one colour? do i actually use other colours?

Yes

No need to use other colors. Now-a-days there are many varieties of one color. It is good to have these handy for monochrome paintings.

Start with the color you're using and then slowly add white to make several lighter progressions of that color ... and then go back to the basic color again and add black to do the same thing. Depending on the size of your painting, you're gonna need a lot of paint so you can make a lot of each progression color, otherwise if you run out of that color then you're going to have to mix your colors just right in order to match it again which can sometimes be difficult.
