Dear Ignorant Masses

Just take moment to contemplate the universe, life, and even your own self-awareness, and then do some scientific research on the topic.

It's all more incredible than anything anyone could have ever "created". :)

Some intresting comments here(some less so)!

As someone who grew up with religion& studyed it extensivly,

I chose logic rather than Belief

I'm allso quite intrested in History

Right up to & including TODAY--We can see how Religion divides people(a Muslem in Christian societies-A Christian in Muslem societies) Just a couple exsamples!

How does Religion work?

We (Generally) are indoctrinated into it as Young Children(we know children are plyable& logic is easily suspended!

Each & every religion teaches us(directly or indirectly) that just by virtue of BELONGING--We are better human beings than those who don't believe or behave the same as us or our group-Those others are(at the very least)-missguided!

So if all those folks(in other Religions(or no religions) are WRONG--That automaticly makes us better than they are!(esp. if they won't change& become like us)!

I fail to see how this is helpful for the Unity of mankind!

Every single religion ADMIRES Martyers(for the cause)-So of course there is a small %age who will kill& maim because they feel(believe) that is the most effective way(a larger % will hurt with words& other actions)& besides they get rewarded when they die for trying to make things better for thier religion!

Fanatisisum is (allmost) encouraged!

SO- If 1 person out of say-100,000 become fanatical(shooting abortion doctors--suacide bombing-ect ect ect--Given the shear numbers of belivers in any religion--

How much damage IS done?

So--

Please explain How religion is good for the world!

I'm intrested in reading Logic-Not that you belive with all your heart& soul or that Your religion isn't like that--Just real Logic!

ikiam, why would you respect all religions? Do you think it makes you benevolent in some manner? Do you think it conveys thought or tolerance?

What do you respect about a people who in the face of all logic carries on conversations with the sky, raise money to build edifices to the glory of silent, invisible, unresponsive entities and their very human mouthpieces?

What do you respect about "holy books" that contain no scientific facts, no historical accuracy, no moral imperatives, shoddy writing and questionable translations?

As Muslim and Jew mutilate their children with circumcision the Christian and Hindu circumcise their minds with elaborate fairytales told as eternal truths, and this is worthy of respect, why?

Fasting saints and praying friars, chanting monks and singing imams, preaching pastors and mindless missionaries all promoting mind numbing rituals from prehistoric witchdoctor's.

Fools one and all who still fear the night, pray for the sun to return each morn and the rain to fall so the crops might grow.

This you respect, this you see as a plus in your character?

One day you will realise that you are just as guilty of forcing your beliefs onto others as you feel "religious" people are.

Can you see that? What you have is a system of belief. Christians and Jews do as well. You might feel justified in shouting what you believe as the "truth" and calling people who believe otherwise as "ignorant", but please realise that they may as well.

I despise people like you. I respect all beliefs be it Christian, Jew, Islamic, or even Atheist. It would be much apriceated if you could do the same. Calling others ignorant for how they choose to live their lives is just childish and imature. I highly doubt you were there when the world was created so who are you to tell me im wrong for what i believe? You believe there is no God. Fine. I dont care. Live your life how you choose, but dont put down others religion when you clearly dont werent there either.

Ummmm, this group is titled "I am an atheist". If you don't care that someone is an atheist, this is probably not the place to read. There are plenty of groups for religion, spirituality, for those who believe in God/Spirit/Higher Power/Etc.So, why choose this one? The OP didn't call "wrong.

But Jutaro, I do not believe, I know. This world is made of facts and physics, and I am aware of that, whereas a religious mind sees none of this and blindly follows superstition and faith. These are very different things.

This is exactly how they feel. You still dont get it.

I'm not religious, but what I find so hard to believe is I wasted such precious time reading this post with such poor content, from a person daring others to think.

hmm.. I see now you're young, so nevermind, you're excused.

Hey friend there are people who preach wisdom brings grief and ignorance is bliss

ECC 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow

Hope more people become less afraid of wisdom and knowledge

Agreed. Poignant and valid, short and sweet. Nice one :)
