The Hypocrisy Of Religion - The Islamic FilmI was born into a Catholic family, went through the whole song and dance of the steps of becoming a "true" Catholic, went through the motions until I was a teenager which is when I started to think, "What is this crap?!"
I should clarify by saying that I don't necessarily think religion in general is crap. I think organized religion that tells people what to do, how to do it, what to feel and how to think is crap. I believe that religion should be a spiritual thing, not a structured thing. After all, if, in the end, it's all about being one with God, that's between him/her/it and your spirit. Not what colour you choose to wear in church, not what you choose to eat on Fridays, not how long you can manage to stay awake during mass and how much you put in the collection plate. It should be about loving everyone, or at least trying your best with them. Not hating everyone who doesn't think like you, and only loving those like-minded people around you.
This recent fiasco about the short film made about Islam and the ensuing riots, protests and demonstrations completely exemplifies everything I find wrong with religion.
As I understand it, these Muslims are pissed off because this film portrays Islam in a negative light. So what's their solution? To threaten death. To protest. To resort to violence. Proving every. single. thing. that film tells us about Islam.
I do realize that not every Muslim is going to throw a tantrum every time someone does something they don't like, but there sure do seem to be a frighteningly huge number that do. Every day, they prove to the world exactly what it is they're trying to deny. They scream how peaceful they are while threatening to behead someone who draws a picture of Mohammed.
We live in the 21st century. We've come a long way from the days when violence was used to settle everything. We can communicate; we know how to settle arguments with our words, not with our fists. Why do these people think they can be the exception? Why do they think they'll someday get respect for their beliefs when they behave like this? Why won't they just knock it off, put on their big boy pants, and get their **** together?
