Although, I do think that the term 'intellectual' has become a bit watery and stereotypical. Intellectualism has become something that it really isn't due to the word being tossed around. It is now portrayed by the masses as being somewhat synonymous with 'snobbishness'.
"Oh..... you're an intellectual."

I never would have referred to myself as an intellectual until I realised just how different the interests of the majority of people are to mine.
(Purple Rose of Cairo is my favourite) -

I think woody also said something like"You know alot of geniuses,you should meet some ordinary people, you might learn something"
