I Am Asexual

I've Known This For A While Now

Yes, as the title suggests, I have known myself to be asexual for quite some time now. Things have not always been easy for me in the past 10 to 12 years or so since I reached puberty. I have not ever dated, nor have had even the slightest inkling of a desire to do so, and the older I get, the more strongly I feel as such.

I am an aromantic asexual a.k.a. "Double-A" as In sometimes like to say. This means that I have no romantic feelings on top of the lack of sexual attraction. And yes, I have recieved a number of the dismissing and biogoted remarks, ranging from "You just haven't met the right person yet" to "Asexual? So you can reproduce by yourself?" or "How do you know unless you haven't tried it?" I am sure alot of the people in this group have had these thrown at them.

I mean, asexuality is not about whether or not someone enjoys the act itself, but instead is the lack of sexual attraction. Most of the people to whom I've come out have been heavily supportive. I have been a member of the Asexual Visibility and Education Network or "AVEN" as it is popularly known, sice June of 2010, where I go by the alias "Trolley Boy" as I am a big fan of streetcars and their history. I joined up after my older cousin heard me out about my ways, and so he suggested I become a member.

Anyways, I am glad to have found this group on EP, and I am sure I will be able to share and exchange my views, and maybe even help out a few people who need advice. Cheers!

    Thank you, Nobini. Yes, it just keeps repeating itself. If you ask me, the people who throw such remarks are the ones who refuse open their minds. They are just blind to the variations out there. But then again, asexuality doesn't get a whole lot of visibility, though I am sure it will in the years to come.

    I understand what you mean by people throwing such remarks as "you haven't met the right person" and such and such. Sometimes it gets annoying and they would go as far as say that we're just defensive or that we refuse to open our minds. It's frustrating when they sound as if they know our minds more than we do.
