Depression That Wouldn't Go Away

I was diagnosed with Bipolar type II after the birth of my 2nd daughter. I had postpartum depression and was trialed on every antidepressant out there and none worked. We even tried Abilify, Seroquel, and lithium. Eventually, the only thing that worked was a Paxil/Zyprexa combination and because my depression was so treatment resistant, I learned something else was going on. I am glad I have a diagnosis and am not just stuck thinking it's just plain old depression.

Hi Borderlinemama,

Meds by itself doesn't work for me. I am on Wellbutrin now, but before that I was on several cocktails of meds. Some made me physically sick I thought I was going to die from the pain, others made me worse, and others just plain sedated me.

I started with Reiki, an ancient japanese energy healing and it helped. Then I did other holistic type of treatments, including seeing and researching nutrition. But the one thing that helped me the most, cost me nothing. I exercised. As in cardio. Started with walking and now I run 4 to 5 miles, at least 4 days a week. I look great and feel great.
I used to have an episode every month, now its around 3 to 4 months and not as intense. Endorphins are wonderful! Nothing to lose by just trying.
Hope this helped.

I have people I care about who are bipolar, I'm glad you found something that helps you. Good luck and I hope you can be happy!
