I had an eye opening conversation with trailguide once about being naive... which also means being unjaded.. which means being open and sincere. When viewed in this way, naive is a compliment! Even when perhaps it's not meant to be... ;)

That's better than being called a piece of crap, egocentric, spoiled, and ignorant like Americans are referred to.

I personally have not met anyone from Canada that was unpleasant. I have to admit that some are more pleasant than others, but yeah... I love the people that I know so far...

As for the country, I have only been there once and that was to see Niagara from the Canadian side. But I have been shown some beautiful pictures of different parts of the Country and would love to see it sometime.

    Being a life long east-coaster.

I gotta say I love it here.

I spent 21 years int eh army.

Went to Maine a couple of weeks back and met a salesgirl who was in the Nat Guard.

She asked me why Canada had a military?

    "you dont fight"

I laughed and asked her who has been cleaning up the US Govt messes for the last 30 years.

After explaining world events for the next 20 min to this kid.

Told her she needs to watch something other then CNN for her news...

I feel the reason they(US Citizens) think that way is they are fed BS their whole lives.

I mean if you tell someone they are the greatest all the time they are going to believe it.

That is until someone shows them they are not

So in a nut shell. I kinda but not really feel sorry for them.

its like not hating the handicapped kid cause hes not his fault hes that way

Ok. Im not going through all the comments and I certainly appreciate all my friends to the north but......Those of us in America get tired of being generalized too. Maybe its the whole health care debate , I dunno. Besides, how can I not like a country that gave us Bob and Doug McKenzie!

I am from the States and I think that I stereotype Canadians, but in a good way. I just commented on another story here- I get the impression that the people there are just nicer overall.

I don't mean to bash the States, but, at least in the city where I live, many people are pretty unfriendly and miserable.

I just hear that Canada is awesome :)

We are definitely not naive! I would say Canadians know more about the world than the world knows about Canada. Just goes to show you how naive those people are :) But we most absolutely are friendly! I have a friend who moved here from Holland and he told me that Canadians are 10 times friendlier than any European he's ever met :D (those are just the one's HE'S met though...I am not stereotyping any European here, because that would be extremely naive lol)

Nothing like a Tim Horton's maple-dipped donut, a six pack of Molson Canadian Ice, and a Russell Peters DVD to make me get over my naivete.

Lol I don't see why we are seen as naïve. I don't really actually see how someone can generalise a whole country! I mean I'm all up for a laugh at the stereotypes as my british love knows but .. Come on. Some people take it too far

I'm sorry to hear your upset destry

I used to live in Minden Ontario, by way of Boston and NY. A great place, a beautiful country...with awesome people. I will say the whole Canadian Mountie thing is a little strange..but a great place nonetheless

First of all.... I am NOT a DUDE, dude. I get a little ticked off, because naivety implies that we don't know what is going on around us. That is all....
