I've been called 'charming' since I was a small child. Back then, it made me the 'golden child' (trust me, its not all its cracked up to be) in the eyes of my teachers and family (with the exception of my biological father's family of course).

Today, it makes it easier for me to meet people and have them like me. Its also incredibly useful in my work as a student journalist because it makes people willing to open up to me and to talk about things that are important to them.

That being said, I'm not so sure being "charming" is a trait. I think its a skill. Yes, there are those who are more naturally apt than others, but charm is just the ability to set people at their ease. In a very simplistic sense, its about making others feel comfortable and important when they're around you without coming off as ingenuine.
