I Am Christian
The world is in pain under humankind’s heartless dominion
Oh my God, why don’t you come and sort it out?
The trees are shrivelling in the draught of our carelessness
The sea is tainted with blood and petrol
If it feels like tears bleeding from my eyes
Then it must feel like streams of blood from yours
so my God, why don’t you come and save the world?
Maybe you’re coming in ways I cannot see, through us, when we take that one step to stop the damage.
Little ones are robbed of their childhood by violence, rape, and exploitation
as adults mercilessly trample on the treasures of their dreams
If it feels like a hundreds blades through my heart
Then it must feel like a thousand swords piercing yours
so my God, why don’t you come and rescue the helpless?
Maybe you’re coming in ways I cannot see, through us, when we stand up against injustice.
Mothers and fathers grieve for their children
Killed in wars or tearing one another to shreds in selfishness
Families are broken and leave children without the shelter of love
If it feels like a bitter sadness in my guts
Then it must feel like burning pain in yours
so my God, why don’t you come and heal our relationships?
Maybe you’re coming in ways I cannot see, through us, when we build the bridges of reconciliation.
One thing I know: you can die for your children… not for your toys.
If you died on that ragged cross for us, surely you care
You’re not playing games
You came down and lived among us, even to suffering and death
So one thing I know is you do love us
and you’ll sort us out in ways I cannot comprehend.
In Jesus you made us able to be forgiven, to forgive and to build your kingdom of love.
The Bible is like one great big puzzle at times
So much I don’t understand
Why did those people do these horrible things?didn’t you disapprove?
Why did you say those tough or puzzling things? What did you mean by it?
How much is down to context and human ideas?
How much is really from your mouth?
I don’t understand it all
But one thing I know: you can die for your children… not for your toys.
If you died on that ragged cross for us, surely you care
You’re not playing games
You came down and lived among us, even to suffering and death
So one thing I know is you do love us
and you’ll sort us out in ways I cannot comprehend.
In Jesus things fall into place and begin to make sense.
And what about my own life? What about the mess I made?
What about the bed of filth I sometimes lie in?
What about excuses and might-have-beens?
What if I am wrong? What if I stumble? What if I fall?
Will you forgive me or deny me, Lord, when I’m so mixed-up and confused at times?
One thing I know: you can die for your children… not for your toys.
If you died on that ragged cross for me, surely you care
You’re not playing games
You came down and lived among us, even to suffering and death
So one thing I know is you do love me
and you’ll sort me out in ways I cannot comprehend.
In Jesus you called me and will bring me to yourself, my heart made good at last.
